Our Students
AND HOW WE HAVE HELPED THEM SUCCEED
"I have to tell you. We are so impressed with all you have done for us!" — Glendale Parent
At Perfect Fit, we help each student develop a complete package that will give him/her the best chance for college admission. For students with more heart than high test scores, we highlight the attributes that make up the whole person: strengths in leadership, sports, the arts, or a passion for a cause.
For students with impressive grades and scores, we help with direction and organization so that they can concentrate on what they do best, schoolwork and extra-curricular activities. We work off-the-clock, making calls to college admissions counselors on your student's behalf to ensure that every student has a chance for a perfect college fit.
At Perfect Fit, we are here to help any student who is earnest about attending a four-year institution. We will help your student think about their future place in the world and where their leadership skills might best be developed. Whether the student is entering high school, is a freshman, sophomore, junior, or a senior, we will create a plan for success.
We also have plans to help families who want their student to be noticed by athletic coaches and be "scouted." Other families may be interested in military appointments. We have helped several students get nominations from senators and congressmen. One even got the appointment he dreamed of! We know how to proceed and when to start.
We help the family with the big picture as well as the small details. We help each student find their voice and write an attention-getting essay. We create a timetable to facilitate a smooth process. We are here for our students through the whole process.

FOR JUNIORS IN HIGH SCHOOL
Get A Head Start On The College Application Process Early
Juniors (and sophomores) should start their college process as soon as possible, which means, starting in the fall, then in the spring, or at least at the beginning of the summer months.
#1 → Register at Collegeboard.com for SAT-Question-a-Day or get the App for your phone. This is a painless way to raise your scores. We test ourselves every day here at Perfect Fit. They really help.
#2 → Get the Collegeboard SAT prep book (blue and green) or the Real ACT book (red) and begin taking one 30-minute practice test a week. You can master test-taking if you practice.

#3 → Register to take your official SAT or ACT. You can no longer walk in and take the class. Prepare, plan ahead, and retake. Second sittings are often 100 points or higher.
#4 → If you are taking any AP classes, make sure to register for the SAT II tests in those subjects as soon as as you can after the class is over. That's when you'll do your best.
#5 → Start researching colleges based on your interests. We will ask a lot of questions and listen very carefully to your answers. Students who start college lists early, end up with the best "fit" in the end.
#6 → If you need help, we will recommend a course of study and provide you with tutors, as necessary. We aim for the November 1st deadlines!
#7 → We listen carefully to your financial needs and always add schools that you can afford "no matter what!"
NCAA SCOUTING FOR ATHLETES
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
We are interested in the special skills of all our students. Ability in sports is rated as a "talent." Schools measure the talent, character, and academics of each athletic applicant. Generally, in Division I, academics take on a much lesser importance. A 2.0 GPA is all that is required to remain eligible.
Division I players are expected to see a tutor for 10-20 hours a week. Student-athlete's schedules often include up to 30 hours of practice and play time. Travel time is in addition to that. Typically, Division I athletes are considering the sport they play as a possible career.

Annual awards for Division I athletes are around $48k. Division II awards are around $8k. Division III schools cannot make monetary awards. Division I and II student-athletes are working for their education. Division III student-athletes are more students than athletes.
There are many facts to consider when student-athletes begin looking at schools. Because the process is accelerated, athletes should start contacting colleges sophomore year. Junior year is the time to hone the relationship, visit schools, and begin fielding offers. Early senior year, the process is usually over with "Signing Day" in late January.
Assessing athletic talent needs to be considered alongside a student/athlete's intended major and career goal. If his/her interest is to become a professional athlete, he/she should consider a Division I school. If he/she has a backup interest in architecture or engineering, that client will not be seeking a small, liberal arts college because those programs are not offered in small schools. An athlete interested in economics or history might want to play Division II or III sports while also getting a small, liberal arts education.
Often clients start with a lot of conflicting desires, which leads to student stress. Student/athletes are smart enough to see that, over time and with their talent, the offers they receive from school recruiters will determine their career/education path.
MILITARY INFORMATION NIGHT
Looking For Well-Rounded, Motivated Young Men & Women
“Maria is over-the-moon excited about her acceptance to the Air Force Academy! She worked very hard with you and for the last year and finally got the good news today!” -- Parent
We have attended congressional Information meetings. If you are interested in asking your representative for a nomination, please give us a call.
We can help guide you through the competitive process of gaining an Academy Appointment an ROTC Scholarship at the college of your choice!
Nominations for Appointments to: West Point, The Naval Academy, The Military Academy, The Merchant Marines. The academies look for:
1. Good academics (transcript plus SAT or ACT)
2. Medical qualification
3. Physical aptitude
4. Leadership potential

Academies want to see a well-rounded person who is prepared mentally and physically. Each member of Congress can have 10 nominations and 5 appointments per district. Senators only get one per state. It’s a very competitive process. No one has a preference. It’s all based on merit.
For a nomination for a U.S. military academy, you must apply to one of your state's Senators, your Congressional Representative, or the Vice President, and meet basic eligibility requirements of age, citizenship, and physical condition. Contact a recruiter. The academies themselves evaluate nominees based on academic record, leadership potential, and physical and medical fitness before making the final appointment decisions.
Note: The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is the only service academy that does not require a nomination. You can apply to it directly.
#1 → By mid-October, you must submit your nomination application. Indicate your academy when you take your SAT or ACT so that the scores are sent directly to the academy.
#2 → The Board interviews the applicants in December.
#3 → Mid-December is the interview in your congressman’s office. This is a face-to-face chance to shine. They are looking for the desire to attend.
#4 → Qualified alternates who were denied are sometimes called back if the academy has vacancies in a class that they need to fill.
#5 → Your essays are very important: Why do you want to serve? Talk about your extracurricular activities.
#6 → By Christmas, the nominations are announced.
#7 → Your physical fitness and health will then be assessed. Appointments can come anytime after March of your senior year and may come as late as June. You need to have a backup plan in place.
You can ask for 2, 3, or 4 nominations. You must be completely self-motivated. The final advice from all of the academies: "If your parents want you to go and you don’t really want to go, don’t go. If you really want to go and your parents don’t want you to go, come see us!"
